Religion versus Christ

Today in Sunday School, we looked at the well-known parable of the Good Samaritan. The thing that stood out to me as a good reminder was that the two folks who passed the wounded man represented the religious establishment.

One of the struggles we face in the academy is that our colleagues, students and even, sadly, other believers fail to distinguish between the trappings of religion (‘organized’ or otherwise) and the radical life and gift of our Lord.

Our faith is meant to be a way of life, lived both individually and corporately, not some impersonal institution—an organism, not an organization.
